NAKED IS THE REALM
Student Production, St Peter's College (Oxford).
Full-length original play about medicine and censorship. Based on real, though obscure, historical events.
'Naked is the Realm' tells the true story of sixteenth century anatomist, Charles Estienne, whose groundbreaking medical treatise prompts an obscenity trial because of its explicit illustrations. As the French wars of religion loom, and Protestant authors are burned at the stake, freedom of information must be defended from the paranoias of the old regime.
The play was partially candlelit with live renaissance music.
"An unprecedented play.... an original script that is not only good but alive...a truly truly impressive and immersive piece of theatre." - The Oxford Student
